Three doctors with different health specialties have teamed up to provide comprehensive health care to students in five schools in the Mississippi Delta. Dr. Nora Gough-Davis (family nurse practitioner) of Shaw Family Medical; Dr. LaMonica Davis Taylor (board certified pediatric dentist) of Smiles on Broadway Dental Care; and Dr. Chaka Norwood (optometrist) of Norwood Family Eye Care are all graduates of John F. Kennedy Memorial School in Mound Bayou.

These health clinics are located at I.T. Montgomery Elementary School, McEvans Elementary School, Brooks Elementary School and Northside High School.

The 2018-2019 school year was the first year for these schools to offer all specialties. The goal of the health clinics are to provide an accessible source of primary and episodic health services to all students who attend. Services include comprehensive physical/mental health assessments, yearly required well-child checks, comprehensive eye exams, treatments of acute illnesses, preventive dental care, as well as referrals to appropriate local health care providers when an illness or treatment is out of the scope of practice for the services provided by each individual clinic. Faculty and staff health screenings for those who desire care were provided also.

The superintendents and principals have welcomed these providers with open arms. Within just a few months, they have seen fewer absentees and better attendance at all of the schools.
